Enterprises applying for the China Ex Certificate may contact professional Ex certification agency services, such as STS, to submit an application. A one-stop service is provided, covering document preparation, sample submission for testing, test evaluation and certificate issuance.
1. Pre-application Consultation and Application
Select a professional Ex certification service agency to conduct a detailed evaluation of the feasible solution for the product’s Ex certification and confirm the product’s Ex marking (e.g., Exd flameproof type, Exi intrinsically safe type). The agency will also review the product’s design drawings and technical documents to ensure consistency between the drawings and physical samples, and compliance with the requirements of explosion-proof standards.
2. Document and Sample Preparation
Technical Documents
Enterprise Standard (including explosion-proof parameters and intended application environment), product drawings, and operation manual (with installation and maintenance precautions clearly marked).
Sample Requirements
Provide 1-2 complete prototypes. For products with wireless functions, plastic enclosures, potting processes, battery power supply and other special features, relevant test reports, technical documents or product specifications shall be submitted.
3. Testing and Certificate Issuance
The certification agency shall conduct the corresponding type tests based on the product’s Ex marking, including structural inspection, spark ignition test, dielectric strength test, battery and battery pack test, internal ignition non-transmission test, enclosure pressure resistance test, temperature test, impact resistance test, drop test, etc. Upon the successful completion of all tests, an explosion-proof test report and the China Ex Certificate will be issued, with the certificate generally having a 5-year validity period.
4. Notes
Agency Service vs Independent Application
Engaging a professional agency (e.g., STS) can shorten the certification acquisition cycle but involves a service fee; independent application incurs lower costs but is more time-consuming, and may even result in certification failure due to professional technical barriers.
